Ujjivan Financial Services (Bangalore) is the largest urban microfinance institution in India with operations in 14 states providing services to the economically active poor enabling them to build a better life.
Launched in 2006 as the first urban-focused microfinance company in India, Ujjivan has successfully grown from a fledgling startup to a robust business. Ujjivan’s goal is to provide a holistic range of services to poor working women in urban and semi-urban areas to enable them to be free of poverty within five years.
Samit Ghosh
Samit is a 30 year commercial and consumer banking veteran in India and abroad. He pioneered consumer banking in India with Ravindra Bahl and Jaitirth Rao at Citibank in 1985. He subsequently led the launch of retail banking for Standard Chartered in the Middle East and South Asia and for HDFC Bank in India. His last commercial assignment was Chief Executive, India of Bank Muscat.
Since founding Ujjivan, Samit has surrounded himself with an accomplished management team. Leveraging the team’s expertise and background, the company has successfully combined microfinance methodologies with the technologies and efficiencies of modern retail banking.
